Clarice Starling from 'Silence of the Lambs'

 Clarice Starling

'Yes. I took one lamb, and I ran away as fast as I could.'

F: Ex (20)
A: Gd (10)
S: Typ (06)
E: Rm (30)
R: Gd (10)
I:  Ex (20)
P: Ex (20)

Health: 66
Karma: 50
Resources: Typ (06)
Popularity: 3

Talents:
Clarice Starling has the following talents:
  • Law-Enforcement*
  • Firearms
  • Marksman*
  • Forensics
  • Detective
  • Psychology*

Powers:
Clarice Starling has no real powers, possessing like several others ‘power-like’ effects, which include:

  • Danger Sense: Clarice has a preternatural ability to sense impending danger, either through her environment (such as sounds or last-minute glimpses) or just ‘gut’ reactions. Starling has avoided deadly encounters that would result in her death due to these instincts, mechanically acting more as the power combat sense with Ex (20) ability.
  • Strong Will: Clarice has a higher Psyche score than normal due to her willpower and ability to resist brainwashing and the like (such as when Hannibal Lecter attempted to brainwash her into believing she was his long-dead sister – See Limitations). Starling’s willpower is extraordinary, even if she’s not fully aware of its extent or ability. For the purposes of resisting mental effects such as hypnotism/brain-washing, Starling is considered to have Rm (30) ability.
Contacts:
While Starling had contacts within the FBI, the period during and after Hannibal
significantly reduced her contacts and ability to utilize them. After the events of the novel, Clarice Starling has one primary contact- Hannibal Lecter.

Limitations:
Clarice’s limitations are tied to three main things: How Clarice has been portrayed in the movies, how Clarice is portrayed in the books, and what period of life she’s in. To this end, her limitations are listed accordingly:

  • (Movie): New at the job: Clarice is new at the FBI and eager to please her superior Jack Crawford to this end, Clarice will do whatever she has to do within the limits of propriety to impress her boss – including interviewing Hannibal Lecter, breaking the rules about Lecter, and going off on her own to follow-up an investigation. Clarice has a degree on inexperience and it shows at different points.
  • (Movie) Reputation: By the movie version of Hannibal
  • , Clarice is an experienced agent with a reputation which is not good, a fact which Mason Verger uses to bait Hannibal Lecter with by having Clarice lose her position and endangering her. Through deliberate means, Clarice is considered ‘bad news’ in the FBI.
  • (Movie)Pursuit of Justice: Clarice is dedicated to the pursuit of justice, willing to place herself often in risk and in danger to see that the guilty are brought to justice, even handcuffing herself to dangerous opponents to prevent their escape.
  • (novel) Protégé of Dr. Lecter: At the end of the novel Hannibal, Lecter’s attempt to brainwash Starling fails, but she joins him of her own accord and joins him in flight. Several years later, she is spotted with Lecter as she has completely joined him (and has presumably joined his cannibalistic nature as well). Starling is considered to be a fugitive at this point, and is no longer considered to have any contacts with her old life. In addition, Starling has 0 karma, as it is implied that she’s fully Lecter’s protégé and lover.

P: Ex (20)

Powers:
Mystical True Invunerability*:
Smax possesses a degree of invunerability to most everything at In (40) ability. Jeff is the muscle for Precinct 10. In addition to the normal benefits of the T.I., Smax is also seemingly invunerable to mystical effects and attacks at the same level.

Mystical Energy Emmission:
Smax can emit up to an AM (50) burst of nystical energy, and can maintain the burst with a successful Endurance FEAT. The handprint, the only sign of his previous life as a dragonslayer, was caused due to the failure of saving a small girl from a dragon. The origin of this power is unknown, as it is shared by his sister Rexa.

Talents:
Weapons: Sharp Weapons
Weapons: Guns
Professional: Law Enforcement*
Professional: Dragon Slaying
Detective
Streetwise*
Area Knowledge: Neopolis

Contacts:
Precinct 10
Robyn "toybox" slinger
Rexa Macksun

  • Unusual Looks:Despite being from a city populated entirely by superbeings, Smax stands out. At 7'5'', Jeff is Cobalt blue with White hair and a small white handprint on his chest.
  • Overconfident: Smax believes himself to be more than match for anything, and that has in the past come back to haunt him. Jeff suffers a penalty depending on the situation to his actions for being overconfident.
  • Anti-Social: Smax is fairly anti-social, pushing people away left and right. If a person becomes a friend, Smax will stop at nothing for them, such as in the case of his partner and his sister.

Max Payne from the 'Max Payne' Series

Max Payne

Max Payne

F: Ex (20)
A: Ex (20)
S: Gd (10)
E: Ex (20)*
R: Typ (6)
I: Rm (30)
P: Ex (20)

Health: 70
Karma: 56
Resources: Typ (6)
Popularity: 0/-5/2

Talents:
  • Law Enforcement*
  • Detective/Espionage
  • Crime
  • Guns
  • Marksman*
  • Dual Wield
  • Multi-Lingual
  • Covert Operations
  • Knowledge: Criminal Cartel inner-workings
  • Knowledge: City of Operation
  • Military (Never specifically stated, but implied).

Powers:
Payne Will: While not a power in the traditional sense, Payne's desire for vengeance is strong enough to keep Max going long after his body would force him to stop. Payne can shake off most drugs after a short time, ignore wounds, and keep moving forward with the use of painkillers. Payne can do this with an Endurance FEAT of Ex (20), however there is a drawback: Each time Payne rolls a '01' on his FEAT, he permanently loses an Endurance rank (Consider his initial rank prior to the events of the first game at Rm (30). The loss of endurance can be interpreted in the cutscenes in the first game, where Max clearly states it 'took something out of him' at one level.

Bullet Time: Payne's reactions occasionally take on a superhuman element, with time slowing to allowing Max to act and react faster than the opposition. In reality, (and for the purposes of game mechanics), Payne occasionally gains the 'Danger Sense' ability at Ex (20), allowing him to speed up his reactions by sensing incoming danger. While power-like, it is not a power but a benefit of honed reflexes and training (And part of the gameplay).

Contacts:
Payne has few contacts at the end of the first game that are still alive.

Limitations:

  • Psychologically Damaged: Payne is suffering from PTSD as well as Survivor's Guilt over the death of his family and the death of his partner, Alex Balder.
  • Painkiller addiction: While not specifically stated, Payne may have developed an addiction for Painkillers as he has continued to rely on them to continue going.
  • Wanted: Payne is considered a wanted fugitive at some points for his actions during the first and second game
  • Infamous: Most law enforcement is aware of Payne's activities, as well as his record as being a corrupt agent (Framed)
  • Righteous: Payne will always seek to do the right thing, regardless of cost.

Note: This is Max Payne through the first two games, not the third game where we see an old Payne.
